I finished my sock on Sunday night! I think it turned out pretty good. It's not perfect but it fits. Well it could be a little narrower and a little shorter and still fit. It's so thick, being made with worsted weight yarn, and it's just a little roomy. But they will be nice wearing in the house while watching TV on a cold winter night (and we have plenty of those here in Wisconsin!)
After I finished I immediately cast on for the second sock and am about halfway done with the leg. When I get to the heel I'm going to put it aside for a bit and work on the felted purse I started. I have the bottom done on that and am ready to pick up stitches along the sides.

Congratulations on your first sock. For the record, almost everyone's first sock is a bit too big. We're so afraid it won't fit so we make it bigger "just in case." Socks fit better when they are just a bit smaller than a foot.
But you are totally right, worsted weight socks are perfect for winter weather (I sometimes wear mine over thinner-yarn socks). You will love them for what they are.
Keep on knitting! Enjoy every stitch.

Ditto. I did my first socks with worsted wt. on size 5 needles and they were big on me--but are great slippers around the house. If I use worsted st. I use size 4 needles now--but I mostly use sock wt. yarn now. Your sock looks great--can't wait to see the bag!
Congrats on your 1st sock! It looks great! Good luck getting the matching one done for a completed set!
I think my first real sock was on 6s and 7s. It was Joan's Sock and was done with two strands of ww. They are the best, warmest socks and fit well with my Crocs and Birks.
Socks are fun and totally addictive. It's just magic how one can be knitting and one direction and then suddenly have turned a corner and knitting in another direction!
Congrats!
Now, don't let that second one sit too long :)
Excellent job! Now go knit another! deb
Great work! Can't wait to see some pics of the felted purse project!

Wow! Perfect for a first sock!
I'm really impressed and look forward to seeing more knitting on your blog.
Congrats!! I should go get my one half completed sock but if I resist long enough, the feeling will go away!
